An Australian construction and trade services business with 65 employees was running MYOB AccountRight for finance, a separate payroll system, and an Excel workbook for job costing. Weblink Plus migrated the business to Wiise — consolidating payroll, payment processing, and project finance onto a single Microsoft-cloud platform built specifically for Australian businesses.
Discuss Your MYOB Migration65 Employees · MYOB AccountRight · Multiple Award Rates · Project-Based Operations
The client is an Australian construction and trade services business employing 65 people across project management, site supervision, and trade roles. The business operates on a project basis — each job has a budget, a timeline, and a mix of labour, materials, and subcontractor costs that need to be tracked against the contract value. MYOB AccountRight had been the accounting system for over a decade, but the business had grown to a point where the system\'s limitations were creating real operational problems.
The business evaluated several options — including upgrading to a more advanced MYOB product, moving to Xero, and implementing a full ERP. Wiise was selected because it is built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, includes Australian payroll natively, has an integrated payment gateway, and is designed specifically for Australian businesses. As an official Wiise Partner, Weblink Plus delivered the implementation with deep platform knowledge and direct access to Wiise support resources. The total cost of ownership was lower than a standard Business Central implementation because Wiise\'s Australian localisation is pre-built rather than configured from scratch.
MYOB AccountRight is a capable accounting tool for small businesses. These are the specific gaps that emerged as the business grew.
The business was running payroll in MYOB Payroll separately from AccountRight. Payroll journals had to be manually posted into AccountRight each pay run. With 65 employees across multiple award rates, this process was taking the payroll officer half a day per fortnight — and errors were common when the manual posting step was rushed.
Customer invoices were raised in MYOB but payments were processed through a separate merchant facility. Reconciling payments against invoices required manual matching. The business was carrying aged debtors that were actually paid — they just had not been matched in the system yet.
MYOB AccountRight's job costing capability was not sufficient for the complexity of the business's project structure. The operations manager maintained a separate Excel workbook tracking labour, materials, and subcontractor costs per job. This workbook was the source of truth for project profitability — not the accounting system.
MYOB AccountRight was installed on a server at the head office. Field supervisors and project managers had no access to job cost information while on site. Purchase orders were phoned through to the office and entered manually. The disconnect between field operations and the finance system was creating delays and cost overruns.
Wiise is not just another ERP. It is a Microsoft-cloud platform built specifically for Australian businesses — with payroll, payments, and compliance built in.
Wiise includes full Australian payroll — award interpretation, Single Touch Payroll Phase 2, superannuation, leave management, and payslips — natively within the platform. There is no separate payroll system to maintain, no manual journal posting, and no reconciliation between payroll and the general ledger. Payroll runs post directly to the correct accounts automatically.
Wiise includes a native payment gateway that allows businesses to accept card payments directly from customer invoices. Customers receive an invoice with a payment link. When they pay, the transaction is automatically reconciled against the invoice in Wiise. The manual matching process is eliminated entirely, and debtor visibility is accurate in real time.
Wiise is built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and runs on the Microsoft Azure cloud. This means field staff can access job cost information, raise purchase orders, and approve timesheets from any device with a browser. The platform integrates natively with Microsoft 365 — Teams, Outlook, and Excel — which the business was already using.
Wiise is developed and supported in Australia, with Australian GST, BAS, STP, and superannuation compliance built in from the ground up. Unlike international ERP platforms that require localisation configuration, Wiise ships with Australian compliance requirements already handled. This significantly reduces implementation complexity and ongoing compliance risk.
A five-phase approach with particular focus on payroll accuracy and payment gateway configuration.
The migration began with a full extraction of the MYOB AccountRight data — chart of accounts, customer and vendor master data, open transactions, and job cost history. The data was cleansed before migration: duplicate customer records were merged, the chart of accounts was restructured to support Wiise's reporting requirements, and job codes were mapped to Wiise's project structure.
Wiise payroll was configured for all 65 employees — award rates, pay frequencies, leave entitlements, superannuation, and STP Phase 2 reporting. A parallel payroll run was conducted for one full pay cycle before go-live, with results reconciled against the MYOB payroll output. This confirmed the configuration was correct before the business cut over.
The Wiise payment gateway was configured and tested with a sample of customer invoices. Existing aged debtors were reconciled — identifying invoices that had been paid but not matched in MYOB. The opening debtor balance in Wiise reflected the true position, not the inflated figure that had been sitting in MYOB.
Wiise's job costing module was configured to match the business's project structure — job types, cost categories, labour rates, and subcontractor purchase order workflows. The Excel workbook that had been the source of truth for project profitability was retired. Project managers were trained to use Wiise as their primary tool for job cost visibility.
Go-live was timed to coincide with the start of a new financial quarter to simplify the opening balance position. A three-week hypercare period followed, with Weblink Plus providing daily support. The business transitioned to a managed support arrangement at the end of hypercare, with all payroll, payment, and project workflows operating as designed.
Results measured in the first three months following go-live.
Payroll for 65 employees processed entirely within Wiise — no separate payroll system, no manual journal posting
STP Phase 2 reporting live from day one — ATO submissions automated with every pay run
Superannuation calculated and posted automatically — no manual calculation or spreadsheet tracking
Customer invoices paid via integrated payment gateway — automatic reconciliation eliminates manual matching
Aged debtors reduced by 22% in the first quarter — accurate real-time visibility drove faster follow-up
Job cost visibility available to project managers on site via browser — no more phoning the office for budget status
Purchase orders raised in Wiise by field supervisors — all supplier commitments system-controlled with budget checking
Excel job cost workbook retired — Wiise is now the single source of truth for project profitability
